Storytimes

Hennepin County Library helps families meet the goal of school-readiness for all children. HCL storytimes incorporate four important indicators of progress: listening, speaking, emergent reading, and emergent writing.

Emergent reading and writing is what children know about reading and writing before they actually learn to read and write. Storytimes promote active parent/caregiver involvement to help you prepare your child for reading and writing. Storytime is...
• A time for you and your child.
• Books, stories, rhymes, music, and movement.
• 30 minutes of fun!

Make the most of storytime...
• Talk with your child about your visit to the library.
• Come to storytime a few minutes early.
• Participate with your child.
• Talk with your child about the stories.

Anytime...
• Ask librarians for help.
• Take time to choose books with your child.
• Repeat storytime rhymes and songs at home.
• Read with your child because you love being with your child.
