About Birth to Six

Birth to Six Web is created by Hennepin County Library for parents/teachers/caregivers of young children. These literacy resources support children who are getting ready to succeed in school.

Birth to Six includes:

  • Book Lists  Lists of best books for young children created by Hennepin County Librarians.
  • ELSIE  Searchable access to books that help children develop the early literacy skills necessary for learning success. Created and updated regularly by Hennepin County Librarians.
  • Early Literacy  Skill areas, choosing books, Fingerplay of the Month, reading tips, and selected websites. Updated monthly.
  • En Español  Books, selected websites with literacy information, and fingerplays in Spanish. Updated monthly.
  • Storytimes  Reading fun for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Free at your Hennepin County Library. Fall, winter, spring and summer sessions.
  • Birth to Six News  A bi-monthly e-mail newsletter about reading with young children, including books, fingerplays, and literacy tips. Sent in February, April, June, August, October & December.
