As a children’s book illustrator and a father of a four year old I am always reading picture books. Here are ten of my favorites, that I don’t mind reading over and over and over.  (Click on the title to see the book in the Minneapolis catalog.  And check out Mike's engaging work at his website.)

Nothing by Jon Agee.  Everything by Jon Agee is unique and creative, especially Nothing.

The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by John Scieszka and Lane Smith. This book is one of the main reasons I wanted to become an illustrator. I still love it and love reading to my son.

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems. Be careful, Pigeon might start living in your house.

How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long, illustrated David Shannon. These illustrations belong in the MIA next to Van Gogh.

Salamander Room by Anne Mazer, illustrated by Steve Johnson. The story and illustrations are perfectly matched.

Owen by Kevin Henkes. This is a wonderful story that really hits home with my son.

Is that You Winter? By Stephen Gammell. Amazing illustrations!

Guji Guji by Chih-Yuan Chen.

The Three Pigs by David Weisner.

Bark George by Jules Feiffer.
