The Art of Sarah M. Sosa: A Retrospective
|
As a mixed media artist working primarily with collage, I like to break down found images to their basic color and texture which I then use as the raw materials to create new or remixed landscapes and figures. My small-scale collages are built through layers of acrylic paint, paper and ink on canvas. Using mixed media to represent sociological theories such as the commodification of femininity is at the foreground of my artistic endeavors. I communicate my interpretation of social constructs with gestural strokes and contrasting colors in an oftentimes satirical manner. In my most recent body of work--bun·artpetit, I have employed repetitive images of rabbits to further my ideas on production, consumption and the intersection of the manufactured and handmade.
