What is a Primary Source?
Primary sources are records which have survived from the past, such as items of clothing, letters, photographs, works of art, and diaries. Secondary sources are accounts of the past created after an event has taken place.

Primary source documents include textual records, both published and unpublished. Examples of documentary sources include cookbooks, letters, diaries, advertisements, and statistical records. These sources may be transcribed in their original handwriting.
