Hennepin County Library – Golden Valley, 830 Winnetka Ave. N., will close for renovation Sunday, Sept. 13, 5 p.m. The library is scheduled to re-open Saturday, Jan. 23, 9 a.m.
The renovation budget is $1.4 million.
Improvements will include two new public meeting rooms, an expanded children’s area and a new periodical area. Several interior walls will be removed to open up the space, improve sightlines and increase natural light.
Carpeting will be replaced and new seating, shelving and computer tables will be added. Better access to power outlets will be provided for patrons.
Behind the scenes, the library will receive lighting, electrical, and heating and cooling upgrades, as well as new data cabling and Wi-Fi. New automated materials handling equipment and a work room reconfiguration will improve staff efficiencies.
“Like Golden Valley Library patrons, I’m excited about this renovation,” said District 2 Hennepin County Commissioner Linda Higgins. “It will preserve the library’s cozy feel while updating its spaces and technology for even better library service.”
During the four-month closure, Golden Valley Library patrons are encouraged to visit other Hennepin County libraries: Ridgedale Library is located at 12601 Ridgedale Dr. in Minnetonka; Rockford Road Library is at 6401 42nd Ave. N. in Crystal; and St. Louis Park Library is at 3240 Library Lane in St. Louis Park.
