On Tuesday, July 4 (Independence Day), Hennepin County libraries are closed.
The Walker Library will close on September 22 to prepare for the construction of the new library on the same site. The closing event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with introductions from Library Director Lois Thompson. Commissioner Gail Dorfman will lead a family storytime and architects from VJAA will present project highlights afterwards. Please join us to begin a new phase for the Walker Library.
The Minneapolis Planning Commission approved the site plan review application with three conditions: 1). The City's Planning and Public Works staff must approve the final plans; 2) All site improvements must be completed within a year or an application to extend the construction period must be filed with the Zoning administrator; (The Library's proposed reopening will be in the first half of 2014.) 3). Street trees will be added along Lagoon Avenue with the same spacing as the trees to be planted along Hennepin Avenue. The conditions were not appealed during the 10-day appeal period and are now final. While the final plans must be approved by city staff (See condition one), no additional public hearings are required to proceed with construction.
