Preliminary site preparation work begins this fall on the new Webber Park Library site. The initial tasks include installation of site fencing, relocation of power lines and poles, and soil sampling and analysis, conducted by Hennepin County's Department of Environmental Services.
In October, Better Futures Minnesota began interior deconstruction work, removing salvageable materials from the interior of the house. According to Better Futures Minnesota, "deconstruction carefully takes apart a structure to reuse, recycle, or repurpose the material. It is the green alternative to demolition."
Exterior deconstruction of the house and garage walls and foundations, and the surface pavements will begin soon. In accordance with City of Minneapolis regulations, a public meeting will take place to inform the neighborhood and answer any questions prior to starting deconstruction. The public meeting will be held on Friday, October 17th at 9:00 a.m. at the project site on 45th and Humboldt Avenue North.
Pre-design work to plan the new Webber Park Library is ongoing. Community meetings for the preliminary design phases of the project will be scheduled later in the fall. A grand opening celebration is tentatively planned for spring 2017.
