"Hennepin County Library is always looking for ways to meet the needs of our customers," says Amy Ryan, library director. "This service will provide added convenience and privacy for them."

Customers can log on to the Library’s website, click on "My Account" and follow the step-by-step instructions. Library card, PIN and credit card information will be required to complete the transaction.

Customers can choose to pay the entire amount owed or make a partial payment (minimum of $2 per transaction). Customers will not be charged a transaction fee.

HCL should be more aggressive in collecting fines. This is a great revenue source to help improve the collection.

I was incredulous reading Dennis's comment. Which branch does he frequent? My experience with HCL has been that fine collection is EXTREMELY aggressive. Why, I myself have financed the purchase of a whole shelf of books...!

My current fine is less than $2.00, so does that mean the button doesn't show up to pay online? To really give this exposure why don't the web admins have the total outstanding fines on the front page? Oh, is this PCI/CISP certified?

Brook, yes the button appears only when users have $2 or more in charges. We use Nova Information Systems. According to their website "NOVA Network has been validated PCI, CISP and SDP compliant, assuring your clients and your institution we maintain the highest information security standards to protect your data."

In order to make this a little more user-friendly, the e-mail address should not be required. Staff works with customers who might wish to pay their fines online in the library but don't have an e-mail address or don't wish to give it out.

At this point our vendor requires an e-mail address (you can enter a pseudo-address if you have none). The Library has asked that this be changed.

Thank you!!! I have been waiting for this for a long time. I admit that we often have fines due to overdue libary materials, and we put off paying them simply because it's not very convenient. Thank you so much for making this option available - busy families everywhere are extremely grateful!
