Please make this service available for iPods. iPods are the leading mp3-players on the market. You would reach a far wider audience and certainly get my thumbs up!

Don't despair iPod owners. You can put these books on your iPod. Two choices: most can be burned to CD then ripped back into iTunes. Better yet, download the free
Audio Recorder for Free software. Start up Audio Recorder and click on the Record button. Then play the book on your computer using the Overdrive Media Console. Audio Recorder captures the book and saves it as an mp3. Sweeeet!

I have downloaded a book using OverDrive to my Sansa player. When I try to play, however, I get the message: "synchronize to continue your music subscription" and I cannot play. The book clearly is on my player. What do I do?

Kate,
I had the same problem and figured out how to solve it.
Check the menu system and see if there's a setting to change the USB communications mode. My Sansa C250 can be set at MSC or MTP. Change that setting then try to sync your player with the latest version of Windows Media Player and see if it works then.

Overdrive, one of the Library's audiobook providers, announced today that a limited selection of audio titles will become available in MP3 format beginning in June 2008. Titles released in MP3 will play on iPods and will not be DRM-protected. From their press release, "At launch, however, there will be a limited catalog of titles as not all of our publishing partners will offer content in OverDrive MP3 format. The initial OverDrive MP3 Audiobook catalog will include thousands of award-winning titles, unabridged fiction, classics, children, nonfiction and other genres." Support for Mac OS is also planned for later this year.
