The National History Day competition has become a major academic focus in many Minnesota schools. Minneapolis libraries piloted a program series called History Day Hullabaloo to promote use of library resources, and to connect students with University of Minnesota project counselors and with staff from the Minnesota Historical Society who coordinate the competition on the state level. This successful program series has an online component as well. On the TeenLinks website's Do Your Homework page, a subject guide called History Day Projects exists to index major online resources for students and to help them find support and information for competing in National History Day.
ELSIE is a database of over 500 picture books, selected to help children develop the early literacy skills necessary for learning success. Librarians at Hennepin County Library select ELSIE books and include presentation notes showing how to emphasize skills in fun, interactive story sharing. You can search ELSIE by keyword and/or by early literacy skills. Newest titles appear first, so check ELSIE regularly. An RSS feed is available. ELSIE is part of the Birth to Six website. | Recent Staff Presentations |
