Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana - National Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15-Oct. 15th, 2004
This month we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, highlighting the history, culture and achievements of Hispanic Americans. The celebration, beginning in mid-September, coincides historically with the anniversaries of independence of several Spanish-speaking nations, including Mexico. At this time, individuals of Hispanic background are the major minority group in the United States, with a current population of over 35.9 million. International Day of Peace - September 21, 2004 (United Nations Observance)
Since 1981 the U.N. has observed an international day of peace, with the purpose being: "... the Day shall henceforth be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities throughout the Day."
