Entering grades 2-5. Discover artists' secrets and uncover illusions meant to trick the eye by looking closely at art from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (http://new.artsmia.org/). Museum-trained teens will help you make art to hide your own secret messages. Materials provided.

Global Folk: Music of the Andes Mountains
Saturday, Oct. 11, 2–3 p.m.
Held at Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center, 5600 85th Ave. N.

All ages. Enjoy cumbia, salsa and merengue music styles from Alma Andina Trio, local musicians who fuse contemporary electronic rhythms and textures with traditional South American folk instruments such as the quena (flute), zampoñas (panpipes) and charango (lute).

Paint It Green: Junk Paleontology
Thursday, Oct. 16, 10:30a.m.–noon

K-grade 6. Fossilized bones of a new dinosaur – the Junkosaurus – have just been discovered in landfills around the world! Work with an artist to create your own version of this reptile using a lot of imagination and junk. Materials provided.
