1.Who was your favorite character in Black Duck and why?
2.Do you think that prohibition would work nowadays? Why or why not?
3.What do you think about the way this book was framed: the modern young man interviewing the elderly man as the framework for the story? How would the book have been different if the interview wasnt part of the story?
4.Would you have made the same choices that Ruben made throughout the story? If not, what would you have done differently?
5.Which side of the law would you have been on during prohibitionwould you have tried to stay out of it, would you have tried to enforce prohibition, or would you have assisted the rumrunners?
6.Although alcohol is legal now in the U.S., drugs are illegal. Do you see any similarities between the illegal drug trade and the illegal activity that takes place in Black Duck?
7.If you were Ruben, would you have given over the ticket when the gangsters were demanding it?
8.What did you think of Billy Brady? Were his motives good, or was he motivated purely by greed?
9.Ruben and Marina both forgave Jeddy for calling the Coast Guard to report the Black Duck. Would you have forgiven him if you were them?
10.What do you think about Ruben and Marina? Did you figure out their relationship before the end of the book?
