1.What did you think? Do you usually like nonfiction or fiction better? Was this book different from other nonfiction books you’ve read?
2.Have you ever been to Washington D.C.? If so, have been to some of the places talked about in the book, like Ford’s Theater?
3.You all probably knew that President Lincoln was assassinated, but was there anything surprising about the story? What did you think about how little-guarded Lincoln was? What kind of security do modern day presidents have?
4.Sic Semper Tyrannis = “Thus Always to Tyrants” – what does this mean? What did it mean to Booth/why did he say it?
5.Who were some of the heroes in this story? Villains? What do you think of the roles played by some of the people like Laura Keene and Lafayette Baker, for instance?
6.Do you think justice was served for the conspirators? How about for the people that assisted Booth and Herold during the manhunt?
7.What's a 'manhunt'? Can you think of any other famous manhunts? (ex. Bin Laden, Jesse James in MN,...)
8.Lincoln's assassination is one of the giant moments in U.S. history - can you think of other events of a similarly large magnitude?
