These are books that I kept thinking about even after the last page...

These personal life-stories will keep you reading through laughter and tears.

Mike G. books (6 titles)
This list is the result of working in a library. There is no pattern to the selections, beyond a preponderance of non-fiction. Sometimes a patron recommends a title, sometimes a book cries, "Read me!" on its way to an uncertain fate at the end of the conveyor belt.
A Few of Rachel's Faves (25 titles)
Favorite books I've read or listened to!

Brookdale Library Staff 's Comments
Cover ArtThe ocean at the end of the lane
by Gaiman, Neil
This is a book you can read in one sitting, drawn in by the compelling characters and storyline. Or, you could savor it, unpacking the layers of dark intrigue Gaiman has created. I read it in one sitting and will savor it next time. - Karen H.   posted Feb 18, 2014 at 2:11PM

Cover ArtNight film : a novel
by Pessl, Marisha.
A disgraced journalist investigates the mysterious suicide of the daughter of a reclusive director of beloved horror films. He is aided in his quest by a collection of misfits who crossed paths with the girl, before her untimely death. - Chuck   posted Feb 12, 2014 at 1:44PM

Cover ArtHyperbole and a half : unfortunate situations, flawed coping mechanisms, mayhem,
by Brosh, Allie
Allie Brosh is a gifted young humorist who tells stories punctuated with comic drawings. The chapters alternate between humorous anecdotes and serious examinations of herself, but is funny throughout. - Chuck   posted Feb 12, 2014 at 1:43PM

Cover ArtTwo boys kissing [sound recording]
by Levithan, David.
This centers around Craig and Harry, ex-boyfriends and "two boys kissing" to break the world record for longest kiss. The author employs an interesting narration technique: the book is written from the perspective of deceased gay man of the AIDS generation, marveling at the progress that has been made, and rooting for those still struggling. Ultimately, I found the narration a little too precious, especially when read by the author on the audiobook. - Karen H.   posted Feb 10, 2014 at 5:46PM

Cover ArtBeautiful music for ugly children
by Cronn-Mills, Kirstin, 1968-
I love that this book stars a transgender protagonist, was written by a local author, and is all about music. Great teen read! - Erin   posted Feb 5, 2014 at 1:04PM
