Cover ArtWelcome to doomsday
by Moyers, Bill D.
a quick read on a very dangerous mindset that threatens us all.   posted Mar 13, 2008 at 11:42AM

Cover ArtThis film is not yet rated [DVD]
by Motion Picture Association of America
this documentary is very eye opening, well made and only 98 minutes long. a particularly interesting part is where it talks about how the rating system judges violence in a movie versus how it judges sex in a movie (and especially sex partners of the same gender). i’ll never look at the rating of a movie the same way again.   posted Feb 1, 2008 at 12:54PM

Cover ArtSeedfolks
by Fleischman, Paul
great book for kids and adults about reclaiming land and creating a garden where you wouldn't expect it. a wonderful look at the beauty that people in the city can create when they come together. if you want to learn more about this concept do a search of "guerrilla gardening" on the internet.   posted Nov 29, 2007 at 3:47PM

Cover ArtPeak Oil Survival: Preparation for Life After Gridcrash
by McBay, Aric
the best book i’ve read on peak oil yet! peak oil is coming and this book helps you get prepared. a great book to have around when civilization starts crashing down. also, aric debunks the whole deal that "technology will save us", because... it wont. very usable low-tech ways to live. highly recommended.   posted Oct 12, 2007 at 2:03PM

Cover ArtThe Forager’s Harvest
by Thayer, Samuel
highly recommended edible wild plant guide for our area. i especially like this book because samuel does not include any plants in here that he doesn’t have personal experience with- while looking through other guides he has discovered the authors making errors with whether things are edible and how to identify them... he says this is evidence that they haven’t eaten the plants before. filled with lots of vibrant photographs. easy to read.   posted Aug 17, 2007 at 3:23PM

Cover ArtDesert quartet
by Williams, Terry Tempest
this is a wonderful little book. it will likely only take you a few minutes to read it but you’ll want to read it slowly and take in everything that she’s describing. you can practically feel yourself there in the desert. and the illustrations by mary frank are simple and go along very well with the words. terry tempest williams is an excellent environmental writer.   posted Aug 17, 2007 at 3:13PM

Cover ArtEndgame, Volume I: The Problem of Civilization
by Jensen, Derrick
volume 1 and 2 of endgame are life-changing books. perhaps the most important books ever written in my opinion. read excerpts at http://www.endgamethebook.org   posted Aug 17, 2007 at 3:08PM

Cover ArtA Language Older Than Words
by Jensen, Derrick
this is a great book to start with if you want to read something by derrick! the earth is speaking, civilized humyns have just forgotten how to listen.   posted Aug 17, 2007 at 3:06PM

Cover ArtThought to Exist in the Wild : Awakening from the Nightmare of Zoos
by Jensen, Derrick
this is an excellent book- explaining whats wrong with zoos and how they arise out of our destructive culture. its a pretty quick read with clear answers in opposition to what pro-zoo people often use as reasons to keep zoos up and running. it is filled with stunning photographs, including some taken at como zoo.   posted Aug 17, 2007 at 3:04PM
