About me: Hey, I'm Rae. I'm a commission artist, aspiring indie comic author/illustrator, and animal obsessed wacko. If you can't tell, I'm a big nerd. I hoarde books. I have pretty eclectic (and sometimes weird) tastes. I love "indie" and obscure comics and graphic memoirs, reading up on varied animal species, anthropology and anatomy (esp. comparative anatomy), survival guides, crafting books and other random crap, lol.
Reading Interests: sci-fi/fantasy, dramedy, suspense/thriller, lgbt romance, lgbt issues, bizarre food, ethnic food, cook books, diy, crafts, monsters, zombies, ancient egypt/mummies, halloween, insects, birds, primates, rodents, deep-sea fish/invertebrates, etc.

Cover ArtMisery loves comedy
by Brunetti, Ivan.
I find his earlier work to be much funnier because it is so much more shocking and sick. Toward the middle of the book I was already sick of it all (and I even found myself becoming depressed). The end of the book was a relief, because you find that Ivan is in a much better place emotionally and mentally, but I felt like the humor was really lacking... Maybe I'm just a sick puppy? Cover ArtInside Vineyland
by Weinstein, Lauren R.
Dude, this is one of the funniest books I've ever read. This book needs more recognition. It's bizarre, twisted and a lot like hanging with a group of friends while you laugh at inside jokes.   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 3:04AM

Cover ArtBe a nose! : three sketchbooks
by Spiegelman, Art.
I felt like I found this forgotten on a park bench in Uptown. It was like a wonderful and funny surprise. And I'm a real sucker for personal sketch diaries. :3   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 3:02AM

Cover ArtScary stories to tell in the dark
by Schwartz, Alvin, 1927-
These books were the source of so much childhood anxiety for me. I remember having panic attacks at the very mention of "Scary Stories". Steven Gammell is an amazing artist and has inspired lots of my own artwork. I'm very proud that he is one of MN's own local artists! :3   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 3:01AM

Cover ArtLullaby
by Palahniuk, Chuck.
Literally one of the coolest books I've ever read. I wish the images in my mind while reading this book could be put on film for me share with other people. This book inspires so much artistic excitement in me that it hurts! XD   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 2:59AM

Cover ArtPrayer requested
by Northeast, Christian
Not only is the art really interesting and funny, but the strangeness of some of these REAL prayers totally amazes me. This is a really funny book for anyone who can either laugh at themselves or is an atheist. XD   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 2:57AM

Cover ArtPurple pickle juice
by Mayer, Mercer, 1943-
As if Mercer Mayer's art wasn't cute enough, he had to go and do something I'm a sucker for. This has been a fave of mine since I was about 10. The art is whimsical and brings back great memories of my childhood Halloweens... And it's funny cuz I used to drink pickle juice because of this book! XD   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 2:56AM

Cover ArtThe Guin saga manga. The seven magi
by Kurimoto, Kaoru, 1953-2009.
I found this fascinating and somewhat disgusting, lol. I really liked it! The art was generally good, but the anatomy was inconsistent. It is a more unique and distinct style though. Read it if you like funky dark fantasy.   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 2:54AM

Cover ArtBattle Angel Alita : [rusty angel]
by Kishiro, Yukito.
Yukito at his best. This is an amazing story. Great action sequences in a heavily detailed and amazing sci-fi world. Loaded with tragedy and lots of realistic human emotion. Some of the most beautiful manga art of all time. READ THIS SERIES!   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 2:51AM

Cover ArtMaggie the mechanic
by Hernandez, Jaime.
I had only ever heard of Jaime once through a really old issue of Wizard magazine. I only recently got a chance to really get a good look at his work when I found this at MPLS CENTRAL LIBRARY and now I'm in love! Maggie, Hopey and the rest of the girls (even the boys) are all lovable and beautifully drawn. Jaime's art is PERFECTION! Classy and retro, but punky and fun! It's simple, but heavily detailed. Jaime rekindled that fire in me that made me wanna be a comic artist.   posted Aug 27, 2010 at 2:47AM
