Cover ArtThe assassins’ gate : America in Iraq
by George Packer
Highly recommended, but be forewarned that there isn’t much of an upside to the US’s first five years in Iraq. Basically the story how a few of our trusted national leadership can screw up the lives of millions in the name of ideology, politics, nationalism and theology. You won’t have to wonder any longer why a good portion of the world views the US with a target on its back.   posted Jan 31, 2014 at 7:05PM

Cover ArtThe unwinding : an inner history of the new America
by George Packer
If life is getting you down lately, then this book should lift your spirits. Unless you identify with some of lower 99%, then you will probably be as depressed as I was about those who govern us and are supposed to be our best and brightest. This book is hardily recommended because it hopefully will wake up those of us to have been sitting on the sidelines for too long. The author’s book on Iraq, The Assassin’s Gate is also highly recommended.   posted Jan 31, 2014 at 6:56PM

Cover ArtJefferson and Hamilton : the rivalry that forged a nation
by John Ferling
An excellent read which demonstrates the rise of political parties and the warts that our founding fathers had which would influence the ways decisions are made in our political System up to our time. Little has changed in Washington DC in almost 230 years.   posted Jan 17, 2014 at 12:17PM

Cover ArtGifford Pinchot and the making of modern environmentalism
by Miller, Char
Excellent book on one of those individuals that contributed greatly to this country’s wealth and beauty, but goes unnoticed by the general public because he is overshadowed by larger than life personalities of the period. What was also fascinating to me was the importance that the environment had on the politics of the early 20th Century. A battle that we are still fighting to this day, unfortunately. A good book on the man, his family, his work and his politics.   posted Nov 1, 2013 at 9:52PM

Cover ArtFranklin Pierce
by Michael F. Holt
Considered one this country’s worst Presidents, there is more to his story than just his four years in the White House. A gifted man, who despite tragic events in his personal life, still proceeded to do what he thought best for the Union, however short-sighted they might have been.   posted Nov 1, 2013 at 9:41PM
