Hello, I'm Gail from Hennepin County Library. In the next few minutes I'll be introducing you to our eBook Collection from OverDrive's Digital Library.

[image of the text "eBooks checkout 21 days" enters screen]
Ebooks may be checked out by Hennepin County residents for 21 days. After that you will no longer have access to the book on your device.

[image of the text "No renewals. But you may check them out again, if no waiting list." enters screen]
Ebooks cannot be renewed, but you may check them out again immediately if there is no waiting list.

[image of the text "72 hours to respond once your book is available" enters screen]
If you are on a waiting list for an eBook, you will have 72 hours from when you are notified the title is available to check it out from OverDrive's website.

You will need to set up an account or profile with OverDrive to manage your titles.

This is a separate log in from the library's My Account in our catalog.

[image of the text "Limited numbers of licensed copies & lots of demand you may need to wait."]
We purchase or license a certain number of copies of a title. If there are a lot people interested in the same title, you may have to put in a request and wait for your turn with a title rather than being able to check it out immediately.

You will be notified when your title is ready for you to check out.

[image of the text "Launched eBooks July 2010" enters screen]
We launched our eBook collection in July 2010 and are adding titles to the collection weekly. You may not, however, see all the titles you are expecting to see in the collection. This is for a couple of reasons.

[image of article from Today @ PCWorld "Ebook Publishers Want Library Borrowing to Be Difficult"]
Not all publishers make their titles available to public libraries and allow them to be borrowed by our patrons.

Publishers are converting older titles to eBook formats but they may not have converted all the titles in a series yet. This has led to some gaps in series in our collection.

We expect the eBook industry will continue to change and evolve. Hennepin County Library will respond appropriately
