Hello, I'm Jody with Hennepin County Library. In the next few minutes I'll be explaining how the library supports patrons who want to use the services of OverDrive Digital Library.

On our website hclib.org you will find OverDrive located under BookSpace, then eBooks.

You will need to enter your library card's bar code to access OverDrive Digital Library.

eBooks from OverDrive are designed for self-service

because of the wide variety of eReaders and software available.

Library staff members may refer you to the My Help section created by OverDrive.

Library staff members are not allowed to handle laptops or other devices due to liability issues.

To use OverDrive you will need a home computer either a desktop or laptop, a dedicated eReader, or a device that is eReader compatible like an iPod, smartphone or tablet.

Some eReaders like the Nook, Kobo, or Sony devices

require you to have
[image of Adobe Digital Editions Home/Sample eBook Library page]
Adobe Digital Editions software on your computer, also known as ADE. You will need to create an Adobe ID and password to activate this software.

Some devices require the app OverDrive Media Console, which may also need to be authorized with an Adobe ID and password.

Once it's authorized, add Hennepin County Library to your device by selecting "Add a library" from the "Get books" menu.

You may download your eBook to a computer first, then transfer it to your device using a USB cable. You may also download your eBook directly to your device.

Kindle users will need to register their devices with Amazon, and must create Amazon accounts as well as Overdrive accounts to manage their titles.

Kindles receive titles via a WiFi network, or they may be transferred from a computer to your device using a USB cable.
