This is quite possibly the best book I have ever read (with the exception of Ender's Game). It is about the battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War and follows many characters including Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet, Lewis Armistead, John Buford, and Joshua L. Charmberlain, all real and important people in the Civil War. This book was adapted into a movie (called Gettysburg) and is a great read, because the author develops the characters in a way that you feel as though you know them. Recommended for grades 8 and up, because this book is complex.
