In this welcome sequel to "A Girl Named Zippy," Kimmel focuses on her mother, Delonda, who literally gets up off the couch to make a better life for herself and her family. In her unique voice, Kimmel tells wise and powerful stories, often hilarious yet sad and tragic, about her affection and unconditional love for her family and friends. Kimmel’s voice and observations about growing up in small-town Indiana will appeal to readers who like quirky, yet smart storytelling.

Haven Kimmel follows A Girl Named Zippy with another laugh-out-loud story about growing up in Mooreland, Indiana. This is a tribute to her mother as her mother gets off the couch and goes back to college. While Kimmel touches on the problems the family has, the lack of support for her mother’s idea to go to college, the family's poverty , the early marriage of her sister; through it all, Kimmel will soon have you laughing again. It also shows how her mother influenced Haven's future.
