Most of us are familiar with what had happened in Rwanda back in 1994. Some of us might have seen Hotel Rwanda and we might have watched the news. Emmacullee Illibagiza, a 22 year old Rwandan college student comes home to spend Easter with her beloved family in Mataba. Her dreams and her hopes shatter, however, when nearly one million ethnic Tutsis were brutally slaughtered by the Hutus Ethnic majority. Her family was among the victims of the genocide. For 91 days, she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor while hundreds of machete-wielding killers hunted for them. This is Emmacullee’s personal experience and true story. The story is very haunting and yet what inspires us most is the courage of this young woman to be one with the moment and to forgive the killers of her own family members.
