I suspect Ellen Kushner is incapable of writing a character of only one- or two-dimensions. Those who people her books are gloriously human in all their quirks, their strengths, and their failings. There is a grace and sublety in this story intertwined with the swashbuckling and derring-do--all of it very welcome to this reader. Thank you, Ellen.
