I disliked this book immensely due to its focus on putting clutter into the trash. It encourages people to "feed their trash can" and have contests between family members to see who can find the largest item for the trash.
There is VERY little emphasis on donating or regifting or other ways that don’t add to the waste stream. The examples in the book of items thrown out are awful - exercise bikes, wearable clothing, household items, and so on.
I don’t have a clutter problem but wanted to read the book after seeing Walsh on Oprah Winfrey. I was sorely disappointed with his selfish suggestions surrounding decluttering.
Use the suggestions in this book about HOW to declutter, but decide what is still useful and figure out how to donate it to an organisation that will recycle it. Please don’t throw away usable items.
