To me, King’s novels have been either gripping and very enjoyable or so utterly boring I couldn’t finish them. The Tommyknockers was a book I didn’t want to put down. The plot reminded me of ’Salem’s Lot, where the townspeople are transformed into something terribly creepy. What I liked about The Tommyknockers wasn’t so much the fright factor (which was more sci-fi than bone-chilling horror), but rather King’s interplay among the characters: how the “transformation” affected the relationships with each other and with outsiders. A long book, but a good read.
