Kate Elliott Kate Elliott was born Alis A. Rasmussen and grew up outside of Junction City, Oregon. She wrote her first book in high school, but her first book to be published was "The Labrynth Gate" in 1988. She graduated from Mills College in Oakland, California, and went on to work for the BBC in London and at Keyboard Magazine in Cupertino, California before becoming a full time writer. Elliott got a contract with DAW Books and published her fist book with them in 1992, called "Jaran," the first volume in "The Novels of Jaran." "Jaran" was on the Locus Magazine Recommended List and VOYA's Best of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror of 1992. Elliott was a co-author with Melanie Rawn and Jennifer Robeson of "The Golden Key" which was published in 1997. "The Golden Key" was a 1997 World Fantasy Award finalist. Also in 1997, Elliott began working on the "Crown of Stars" series, the first of which, "King's Dragon" was a 1997 Nebula Award finalist for Best Novel. She has also published four novels under the name Alis A. Rasmussen.
