I completely disagree with nitetrain. I listened to the audio CD edition and thought it was excellent. I started the final disc at the beginning of a longish drive to a friend’s house. Toward the end I worried I’d arrive before the book was done and have to sit outside until I finished because I couldn’t wait to hear the ending.

Quite possibly the best book I’ve ever read. Don’t let the title fool you; the book’s a laugh-out-loud-funny microscopic look at the lives of several people in a small North Dakota town, not a chronicle of some NYC hipsters. The writing is absolutely amazing -- each character’s voice is captured perfectly. The laughing out loud part is simply an unexpected but delightful bonus.
