This is a pretentious book that fails to move a person any more than a comic strip would. That said, perhaps that was the writer’s intention despite the shadow of the killing, rape, and torture of the Trullijo regime in the Dominican Repuplic that is the backdrop for the entire story. Such is the stage for the sorry protaganist whose main mission in life is to write science fantasy and lose his virginity. After the reader drags himself through a thousand Spanish cuss words and vulgarities, the protagist accomplishes both. He concludes his virginal life with a hideous
