(2006) 89% (%) 5) PAID NYT Critics' Pick http://movies.nytimes.com/2006/09/08/movies/08cart.html?scp=2&sq=Man Push Cart&st=cse * * * * "See my profile for the key to this code" * * * * SYNOPSIS: "Every night while the city sleeps, Ahmad, a former rock star in his native Pakistan, drags his heavy cart along the streets of New York. Every morning, he sells coffee and donuts to a city he cannot call his own. One day the pattern of this harsh existence is broken by a glimmer of hope for a better life." CONSENSUS: "This compassionate portrait of a New York City street vendor is as beautiful as it is melancholy. "Man Push Cart" is a subtle, insightful portrait of a man struggling with issues of identity, self-worth, and the harsh realities of finding a place to belong in a vast, often-unfriendly American metropolis." MOTIVATION FOR ME TO SEE: All of director Ramin Bahrami's films have garnered well-deserved praise. His debut film "Chop Shop" (2007) was well done, so I thought I would try this second effort of his. And here's hoping his current "Goodbye Solo" becomes a future HCL purchase. [New purchase by HCL]
