Judith Guest creates a charcter, Conrad Jarrett, that readers will find themselves being able to relate to. He seems so normal. I found myself, numerous times, understanding exactly what Jarrett was thinking. This book helps the reader to see that we all have problems and secrets. We spend so much time trying to hide them because we are afraid of what others will think when they find out we are not perfect. The reality that Guest shows the reader, though, is that these problems are not what set us apart but rather what makes us all similar. It's ordinary to be slightly disfunctional.

I thought that the lessons in this book are hard to infer out of the book, but overall I liked it semi. There are some good and bad things about this book. I would recommend this book to people who like to think.
