Stephen Dobyns's published poetry includes Velocities: New and Selected Poems, 1966-1992 (1994) and Common Carnage (1996). He has also contributed poetry to The New Yorker, Nation, and Poetry. Among his numerous novels and short stories are The Two Deaths of Senora Puccini (1988) and Saratoga Hexameter (1990). Dobyns has had an extensive teaching career. He began as an instructor in English at State University of New York College at Brockport, 1968-69. He was visiting lecturer in creative writing at the University of New Hampshire, 1973-75, the University of Iowa, 1977-78, and Boston University, 1978-79. He was also a member of staff at Goddard College, 1978-80, and has been with Warren Wilson College since 1981. Dobyns also received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1974 and 1981 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1983. Born February 19, 1941, in Orange, N.J., Stephen Dobyns attended Shimer College from1959 to 1960. He received a B.A. in 1964 from Wayne State University, and an M.F.A. in 1967 from the University of Iowa. (Bowker Author Biography)
