What other readers are saying about this title:
Juniper is an amazing book that captured my heart and mind when I was in middle school. It’s about a girl named Juniper, daughter and only child to the king of Cornwall. She lives a content life until her grandmother Euny, a wise woman, comes to visit. Juniper decides to study with her grandmother and learn how to use herbs and other useful knowledge, as well as to learn how to control her temper and selfish side. She stays with her harsh grandmother a year and returns to the castle to find her aunt has returned and laid a curse upon the countryside. She’s also plotted to harm the life of Juniper’s unborn brother and future king. It’s up to Juniper to unravel her harmful ways with the white magic taught to her by her grandmother. This book was a wonderful story about the power of doing the right thing and overcoming your own troublesome nature. It teaches the lesson of upholding your morals and strength in the face of powerful negativity and also the importance of knowing how to discipline yourself. It made a huge impact on me as an 8th grader and I daresay taught me to listen to my own inner voice and moral compass. Go ahead and pick this up for your kid or read it yourself, it’s a very charming little story. Don’t forget to also pick up Wise Child and Coleman, the sequels.
