A great combination of personal story, travel writing and spiritual journey in a style that is utterly convincing, even persuasive. She creates an interest in, and for many I suspect, a motivation to share her experiences.

While I found Gilbert’s story interesting, I thought she was very self absorbed, and that her writing is most entertaining when she writes about others, as opposed to herself.

I definitely recommend this in audiobook format. I’m sure it’s a great read as well, but hearing it in the author’s own voice, and a pleasant voice it is, is incomparable. It’s as if you’re sitting down to coffee with her and she’s telling the story to you alone, friend to friend.
Recounting a part of your life story does not make one self-absorbed. She goes about it with a terrific and self-effacing sense of humor.
Love. This. Book.

I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how it compares. Her time in Italy is my favorite.
