Arianna Huffington was born on July 15, 1950, in Athens, Greece. At the age of 16, she moved to England, graduating from Cambridge University with an M.A. in Economics. She has been a noted columnist and reviewer for such magazines as Vogue and Cosmopolitan and is highly praised for her writings. She is now the director of the Center for New Black Leadership in Washington D.C. Huffington's books cover a wide range of topics. Her first book, The Female Woman, is a criticism of extremism in the feminist movement, detailing the shortcomings of the women's liberation movement. Her political involvement has made her a sought-after guest on talk shows; Huffington also hosted her own brief show, Critical Mass. She provided political coverage for Comedy Central for the 1996 election and has been working on a political satire show for that network. She has also written biographies of Maria Callas and Pablo Picasso that have become international bestsellers. Her book Third World America hit the New York Times best-seller list in September 2010.
