This book was about 200 pages too long. While I enjoyed the biography part of the book, the author’s tendency to "retell all of Salinger’s stories" was both annoying and took away from the story of his life. If you want to read a synopsis of every story that Salinger had written, this is the book for you but that is not what I wanted to read. I wanted to get a better understanding of the author and what made him tick. The story is there - and once I decided to skip the author’s need to describe all of Salinger’s stories in great detail - some going on for 5-6 pages--yikes-- I definitely got a picture of the man whose writing I so admire.
