Coral Glynn works as a private nurse and finds herself caring for the elderly Mrs. Hart at Hart House in Leicestershire, England, in 1950. When Mrs. Hart dies sooner than expected Coral is left at loose ends, but these are not ordinary times for Coral or the other cast of characters in this finely wrought book. Cameron’s book has all the hallmarks of slightly eccentric Englishness I have loved in masters of the domestic novel like the English Elizabeth Taylor or Penelope Lively. Well done.
