Who would think the story of a lighthouse keeper on a remote island in Western Australia just after the Great War could be such a gripping tale! It is when a dinghy comes ashore with a dead man and a very alive baby girl.
We follow the lives of Tom and Isabel, the baby Lucy and all the remarkably well-drawn characters of Stedman’s debut novel through joys, sorrows, moral dilemmas, things said and unsaid. No wonder everyone is reading and wants to read this. Warning: Tissue needed at the end.

Emotional story of a childless couple and a baby in a dinghy seemingly given to them by God. Unfortunately the baby has a mother and therein lies the conflict in the story. No easy answers here as many suffer and struggle with love and guilt. Quite an amazing first novel with a heart wrenching ending.
