Mr. Burch visited my daughter's school today to answer questions about his book They Cage the animals at night. I have never seen my 13 year old more moved by a book in her life. With tears in her eyes she retold the story to me. What an amazing, brave man to have endured such pain and neglect, however, still find love in his heart. This should be required reading for all teens, especially in a time when most are living with abundance. My dear Mother always said there is a big difference between want and need. A lesson that has been difficult for me to teach her. Until now; my daughter has been profoundly touched by this story.

This book tells of how a young boy deals with foster homes and other problems in life, and how he grows up and learns to take pleasure in small things as well as big ones.

If you haven't read this...please do. I first read it in highschool, and several time since. Its honest, pure & based on a true story.

I’ve read this book probably 8-10 times and every time, I’m moved to tears...every. single. time. What an amazing story...and what an amazing man to be able to come through this and simply tell the story without hint of whining, but more along the line of
