Emily said:
This fantasical novel takes place in medieval England, during the mythical age of King Arthur. Throughout much of the course of the book, a battle both of swords but also of words between those wishing for religious freedom and the acknowledgement of the people of Avalon, and those working for the advancement of fundamentalist ideas of Christianity within the British kingdom rages, the main general conflict within the novel. Disagreements, scandals, and even some satirical humor make this novel a funny one, even despite the serious nature of the conflict. This novel is definitely worthy of the praise that has given to it, and is definitely a must-read for older teen fantasy gurus.

Not strictly a historical novel, but excellent writing and a fascinating slant on the whole Authurian legend.

Arthurian Legend, as old as the hills, is given new life in this epic story told from the perspective of the women of Camelot, rather than the men. It was at times both refreshing and shocking, and I was pleasantly surprised to see non-Christian beliefs painted in a frank, sympathetic light. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to pick up this book. It has inspired me to read some of the more traditional Arthurian tales in order to compare them.
