This novel received a great deal of publicity (Oprah not withstanding) a few years back, and now that I’ve read it, I agree the good reviews were well-deserved. Franzen’s Lambert family members are some of the most complex characters I’ve read about in years. Still, readers will find themselves intrigued by the characters’ personalities/ situations/ circumstances, and will want to keep reading to discover how their lives play out. If you enjoy reading Pat Conroy, John Updike and similar authors, I highly recommend this book.
