Within the depths of Afghanistan's political violence lives Amir and his father and their Hazaran servants, including Amir's childhood acquaintance Hassan. Amir's father, a wealthy business man, tries his best to support his son, despite the death of Amir's mother after he was born. However, Amir's selfishness and the terror upon the Hazarans led to the leave of Hassan and Hassan's father. Amir moves to America, where he is faced with much simpler circumstances. However, news from his father's old friend, Rahim Khan, brings him back to his politically corrupted home country, where he faces his childhood fears to help rescue Hassan's family from the violence he used to know. Definitely a "can't put it down" novel, a must read for everyone.

Amir is the privileged boy, living in a large home in a wealthy area of Kabul, Afghanistan. Hassan is his servant and constant companion although, separated by social class and cultural stigma, they can never truly be friends. When the Afghan Civil War begins, it signals tremendous changes – though in very, very different ways, neither of their lives will ever be the same.

I fully expected to be blown away by this book given all the hype surrounding it in the years since publication. The first half was riveting, but it seemed to lose some momentum later on. I’d still heartily recommend it, especially for the presentation of Afghani culture and the fascinating competitive kite-flying events, something I’d never heard of before.

Going into this book, I thought it was a little boring,but it definitely does pick up. This book was so incredibely moving for me. The author employed pathos to draw the reader in using emotions. There was alot of very vivid imagery. I would absolutely 100% rommend this book to everyone to read. It was amazing. Very interesting, very touching. A true story of love.

This book is incredibly moving and one of the top 10 books I would ever recommend to another person. Be prepared for something very close to a spiritual experience when reading it...

Different than the others on this list. A peek into Afghanistan, yes. But really, a story of dealing with guilt. It is incredible.
