During WWII Antonina and Jan Zabinski used their positions at Warsaw’s renowned zoo to support Poland’s Underground and aid Jewish people escaping the Nazi’s particularly harsh treatment of them or anyone who aided them. It’s also the story of animals and our relationships with them—what we know, think we know and can learn. Amazing and true! Loved it. It’s more than a Holocaust story.

This book is fantastic! It is really hard to take in at points since you feel like you are part of the story. A must read.

This non-fiction book tells the story of the Antonina and Jan Zabinski, keepers of the Warsaw Zoo and their actions in using the zoo to hide their Jewish neighbors. At times a little bit too detailed (I really didn't need to read in detail about a beetle collection), all in all a very fascinating book about the people of Poland, the Polish underground, and the effects of war on the Polish citizens. I would give this book 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
