Excellent writing and great characterization, but I didn’t like it. It’s a dark, humorless story with a lot of sex and violence: a down-and-out bar waitress gets involved in the coverup of a vicious sexual predator running for political office. She reluctantly accepts the help of a tired, discouraged police officer, but has very little trust and keeps making poor decisions as she watches the murders pile up. Good writing; not for me.
