When Margaret Macy's stepfather and his nephew lear of the fortune she will inherit on her next birthday, Margaret is forced to flee her family home and disguise herself as a servant. Margaret travels as far from London as her money will take her, and is lucky to find a position in a manor house. Only after she is hired does Margaret discover that she is working in the home of two brothers who are both former suitors.
