I think this book is powerful ,and inspirational. The Birth of Venus, is about art, love, and changes. I think you have to be very mature to read this book, to really understand the meaning of the story. Its set in Italy, and the book follows a young girl through her life, Alessandra is very curiouse, and loves to paint but then it was forbidden for women to do such things. There is also lots of betrayel, and painful moments, its dark and scary at parts, but then its so sensual, and real, that you get completely lost in the story. I recommened it to all women. There is also very accurate history of the religouse factors of that time in Florence, and at times some of the scenes in the book are very graphic. Again this book is very good, and you'll be felt feeling lucky to have been able to read such a brillant story, full of twists, secrets, and art.

Alessandra is an unusual young woman who loves to read and paint during the Renaissance, when women were not encouraged to be educated. Her family is thrown into tumult when the Medici's lose power of Florence, and Alessandra is soon after married off to someone she doesn't know. She experiences love, loss, and gains self-possession in this beautifully written novel.

I really enjoyed this historical fiction novel. If you know anything about Italian art and Boticelli, this book is amazing!
