Jane Eyre
Bronte, Charlotte, 1816-1855
This one almost ties with Wuthering Heights for me. In fact, sometimes I think it surpasses it, but then I read Wuthering Heights again and change my mind. Jane Eyre is a wonderfully written book. It follows the title character, an orphan disliked by almost everyone, as she tries to find someone who sees the real her and can still love her.

Villette
Bronte, Charlotte, 1816-1855
Villette could be studied to understand exactly what kind of toll total isolation takes on a person. The heroine, Lucy Snowe, is very similar to Jane Eyre.

Wuthering heights
Bronte, Emily, 1818-1848
One of my very favorite books (if not my all-time fave). Wuthering Heights is a deep, dark story about love, passion, hatred, vengance, and the effect our lives have on others. An essential classic.

Tidings of comfort and joy
Bunn, T. Davis, 1952-
Sort of a story within a story. A teen girl with a serious disease goes to stay with her grandma while her family is on vacation. The girl had been tormenting her heartbroken family throughout her illness, because of bitterness, but Gran tells her a story. Gran's story is her own and takes place during WWII.

Les miserables
Hugo, Victor, 1802-1885
Amazingly intricate and deep, this story follows multiple characters. I've read it three times, but I learn several knew things every time I read it. This book has romance, action, history, and...well, let me abridge or this review will have chapters:This novel is breathtakingly complex, but I love it! Oh, and beware! It is very long!
