Crafty Minnesota: X Marks the Spot

For adults. Cross stitch never goes out of style. Learn the basics you need to create a tiny piece of embroidered art. Design your own snarky saying on a sampler or “8-bit” character for your favorite video game geek. Materials provided.

Paws to Read With an Animal
Sunday, Sept. 21, 1–2:30 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 19, 1–2:30 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 16, 1–2:30 p.m.

For families. Volunteers will help put young readers at ease so they can cuddle up with a certified therapy animal and practice reading aloud. Most libraries host dogs and you can call ahead to see if other animals will be visiting. Time slots are 15 minutes.

Grades 7-12. Will reading "The Hunger Games" teach you to be a writer? You bet! Learn how Harry Potter can teach you about world-building, Neil Gaiman's characters can inspire creating memorable characters and how Veronica Roth's "Divergent" series can teach you about developing plots.

Author Talk: Meryll Levine Page and Leslie Levine Adler
Sunday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m.
Authors Page and Adler will discuss "Jewish Luck: A True Story of Friendship, Deception and Risky Business" which recounts the intertwined stories of two women who fight to establish themselves in a time and place where women, Jews and capitalism were disparaged in the “New” Russia who succeed by creating their own luck.

Author Talk: Dan Munson
Saturday, Oct. 4, 1 p.m.
Munson will discuss "Malice Toward None," a book that tells the dramatic story of the four Kochendorfer children who survived the Sioux Uprising of 1862. Homes were found for them in the Twin Cities, and they thrived. Their descendants now number over 1,000. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Paint It Green: Rube Goldberg Marble Machine

K-grade 6. Design and make your own marble machine using a variety of tubes, papers, unusual scraps, tape, glue and wire. Then add a few marbles and watch the good times roll! Materials provided.
