BOOK CLUBS
Encourage your students to sign up for fun book clubs this summer at the library. There are book clubs for all ages at almost all libraries. Registration is required. Students can attend just one week, or come every week, depending on family schedules.

Many students like to join online book clubs, sometimes in addition to participating in other book clubs! We have online book clubs for guys and for girls in June and July. Sign up now!

  • TeenLinks encourages Teens to Plug in to Your Library this Summer!

  • The Teen summer program theme this year is "Plug in to Your Library." Go to TeenLinks to explore the many programs and events happening this year at a library near you. The Young Adult Library Services Association supports the development of gaming programs that promote technology literacy and support the 40 Developmental Assets of youth. Hennepin County Library, following YALSA's lead, is hosting many gaming programs this summer. Teens can plug in to PlayStation 2 and Wii consoles to play a variety games, including Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, and DDR. They can also plug in to the library by downloading audio books, videos, and classical music, as well as eBooks.

As always, the library supports recreational summer reading. Online, teens can enter our Best Book Ever drawing for prize books by writing a book review. If they're passionate readers, they can create a book list to share with other teens. HCL also has new summer book lists for High Schoolers as well as Middle Schoolers that cover a variety of genres and authors we recommend. We also encourage teens to read some Teens Top Ten Nominees so they can vote in October on the ALA site for the ten most popular teen books of the past year. Reading can also be a social activity, and we have a number of teen book clubs that young adults can join at a nearby location.

  • Teens, Technology, Youth and Learning is TTYL@HCL!
  • TTYL@HCL was a great success this last school year. For teens in grades 6 through 12 as well as K-5, the Augsburg Park and Brookdale Libraries had tutors available to help with homework. Later on in these sessions, teens had a chance to play with console games, and to create computer games, podcasts, and videos...all for free. Hennepin County Library is committed to bringing back an out of school time program next school year as well. Watch for more information later.
