KidLinks Grades K - 6
KidLinks logo Discover useful tips about library resources through the librarians' blog on KidLinks. Each week a new post features recommended websites, book lists, and library programs.

Patrons of all ages can get help from library staff using IM. We can answer questions about finding and using library resources, about your library account and more. You and your students can also ask questions via e-mail, phone, and in-person, of course!

Books Reading BOOKS & READING
A new year means new award winning children's books, including the recently announced Newbery and Caldecott medalists. And don't forget that voting for Minnesota's own Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award happens in March. Encourage students in grades 3-5 to read the Nominees for Division I and cast their ballots at their local library sometime between March 1 and March 22. The winner will be announced on Lovelace's birthday on April 25.

Homework Help HOMEWORK HELP
February is Black History Month. Recommend the KidLinks History subject guide for access to informative databases. These resources include primary documents and videos to help students investigate people, places and history. All students need is a library card to access any of our library databases for free, 24/7!

  • HISTORY DAY PROJECTS & EVENTS

Your students won't want to miss the History Day Hullabaloo on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Minneapolis Central Library. Teens can get personalized help with narrowing topics, developing papers, and identifying primary resources and finding the best library materials. Librarians, Minnesota History Day staff and mentors from the University of Minnesota will help teens make sense of and break down projects into workable phases. There will be plenty of time for questions. Presented in collaboration with Minnesota Historical Society.

Explore this year's History Day theme Rights and Responsibilities in History in Do Your Homework: History Day Projects subject guide. Find links to project instructions, primary source resources, websites vetted by HCL librarians, and databases purchased by Hennepin County Library. Online resources are available 24/7!
